This
sport is believed to have originated in ancient India. Wrestling
is particularly popular in the Northern part of India with a healthy
rivalry among the three key states, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. The
game is unique in its own ways. It is totally a teacher-centric
game, and the art of the game is mastered through long years of
endeavor in the master’s residence. The relation between master
or guru and the disciples are that of unconditional devotion and
commitment towards each other and the game. You can catch a piece
of ancient India, in one of these Wrestling tutelage called, “Akhras”,
where the traditional master-disciple relation still continues.
Vallamkali or Boat Races in Kerala
The
colorful festival of “Onam” attracts millions of people
across the country and even from outside. The Government has taken
quite a few initiative to lure international tourists during the Onam Festival.
The state of Kerala comes alive during this festival as various
cultural functions are organized.
The Vallamkali (boat race) is probably the most
important attractions of Onam. Some of the places famous for these
races are Aranmula on the Pamba River in the Kuttanad region, Papiyad
near Quilon, and Thayathangadi near Kottayam.
Camel Race
Referred
to as the Desert Jewel of India, Rajasthan shimmers with even more
vibrancy during the time of its colorful fairs and festivals. The
enchanting desert city of Bikaner pulsates with music and dance
during the famed Camel Festival which provides the travelers wonderful
opportunity to watch some fascinating folk performances, camel race,
camel dance and many more sports involving camels. It is usually
held in the month of January. Jaisalmer Desert festival is also
an interesting event where you can see exciting camel dance, camel
acrobatics, camel races and polo tournaments where the players ride
camel. On a full moon night the fair looks so beautiful
that you will simply forget the difference between dream and reality.
