Romance - Andaman

More than a thousand kilometers off the coast of Indian mainland, the islands of Andaman and Nicobar provide an ideal place for a romantic getaway. Andaman is very easily accessible and you can reach it by sea and air. From the capital city of Andaman, Port Blair, passenger liners sail to almost all major cities in India like Kolkata, Chennai, and Vishakapatnam. There is also regular flights connecting Calcutta and Chennai to Port Blair.

Visitors to Andaman almost always make it a point to visit the Andaman Cellular Jail, one of the remnants of the instrument of oppression during the colonial rule. The Prison is three storeies high and has a total of about 700 cells.

Today the jail has become a primary tourist spot. Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park is at Wandoor at a distance of 29 km from Port Blair and the beauty of the park attracts thousands of visitor every year.

This is one of the finest places for scuba diving and snorkeling. You can also enjoy a breathtaking view of the rare corals and marine life from a glass bottomed boat. At the Andaman Water Sports Complex, just outside the cellular jail you can hire a water scooter or a speed boat and roar across the waves. At the fisheries museum in Port Blair, you will have the opportunity to see more than 350 species of fish. Anthropological Museum at Haddo in the northern part of Port Blair, displays artifacts that are essentially used by the tribals. There is also a well stocked library that provides invaluable information on tribal culture.

From Mount Harriet, you can watch the beautiful sunrise and sunset. There is a forest guest house with lovely huts and you can enjoy the beauty of nature with all its splendor. At the mini zoo in Haddo, you can see some rare species of birds and animals found in the island. For a romantic retreat in an island there is no better place on earth than Andaman.
