Hill Station - Mount Abu

Being the only hill station in Rajasthan, Mount Abu occupies a special place in this unforgiving desertscape. Mount Abu as a hill station ranks among the best in the world. People from all over India as well as from all over the world come in this relatively cool climate amidst the Thar desert. Situated at the southern tip of the Aravali mountain range, the place has a rich vegetation.

The road leading to Mount Abu meanders round huge rocks. Another aspect of the road that will catch your notice is that it is swept by wind. Mount Abu is the highest point between the Nilgiri hills in the south and the Himalayas in the north. This pleasant resort is built around a lake. The entire area has a number of forest resorts.

Mount Abu has quite a few attraction apart from being the most pleasant place in Rajasthan. The famous Dilwara Temple is situated at this place. Built between 11th and 13th century, the temple is a sheer elegance in marble. The temple is without doubt one of the best specimen Indian craftsmanship. The place also has a few trekking trails and picnic spots. There is also some fine palace retreats of the erstwhile royalty of the region. At one place in Mount Abu, there is a spring erupting from the sculptured head of a cow. The place also has a temple called Gaumukh Temple.

Adhar Devi Temple temple is chiseled out of a huge rock and you will have to get to the temple by climbing a flight of 360 stairs. This is a favorite tourist spot. Guru Shikhar, the highest peak of Mount Abu, is also perhaps the most beautiful. There is certain serenity about the temple built atop this peak.

Mount Abu, located in the western Indian state of Rajasthan is only 187 km away from the city of Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat. There is direct railway communication facility from Delhi, Jodhpur and Agra. There is also a fast train that takes few hours to travel from Ahmedabad to Abu Road station.
