Hill Station - Mount Abu
Being the only hill station in Rajasthan, Mount
Abu occupies a special place in this unforgiving desertscape. Mount
Abu as a hill station ranks among the best in the world. People
from all over India as well as from all over the world come in this
relatively cool climate amidst the Thar desert. Situated at the southern
tip of the Aravali mountain range, the place has a rich vegetation.
The road leading to Mount Abu meanders round huge rocks. Another
aspect of the road that will catch your notice is that it is swept
by wind. Mount Abu is the highest point between the Nilgiri hills
in the south and the Himalayas in the north. This pleasant resort
is built around a lake. The entire area has a number of forest resorts.
Mount
Abu has quite a few attraction apart from being the most pleasant
place in Rajasthan. The famous Dilwara Temple is situated at this
place. Built between 11th and 13th century, the temple is a sheer
elegance in marble. The temple is without doubt one of the best
specimen Indian craftsmanship. The place also has a few trekking
trails and picnic spots. There is also some fine palace retreats
of the erstwhile royalty of the region. At one place in Mount Abu,
there is a spring erupting from the sculptured head of a cow. The
place also has a temple called Gaumukh Temple.
Adhar Devi Temple
temple is chiseled out of a huge rock and you will have to get to
the temple by climbing a flight of 360 stairs. This is a favorite
tourist spot. Guru Shikhar, the highest peak of Mount Abu, is also
perhaps the most beautiful. There is certain serenity about the
temple built atop this peak.
Mount Abu, located in the western Indian state
of Rajasthan is only 187 km away from the city of Ahmedabad in the
state of Gujarat. There is direct railway communication facility
from Delhi, Jodhpur and Agra. There is also a fast train that takes
few hours to travel from Ahmedabad to Abu Road station. From Abu
Road station there are buses that goes to Mount Abu. The journey
will take approximately one hour. You can also rent a car or a jeep.
There is also public transport facility that connects Udaipur and
Ahmedabad with Mount Abu.
