Kaziranga National Park
On the bank of the mighty Brahmaputra River, in
the Indian province of Assam, you will find an amazing bio-diversity
in Kaziranga National Park.
Comprising an area of about 430 sq km,
Kaziranga is full of swamps and tall thickets of elephant grass
making it an ideal home for the Indian one-horned rhino. Watching
big games is a different type of thrill altogether and if you have
a taste for it then it is time to pack your bag and head straight
for Kaziranga National Park.
This is the only place in India where
tourists can see rhinoceros in its natural habitat.
Other
than one horned Indian rhino, you can also see other
animals like the tiger, elephant, hyena, sambar, nilgai, chinkara
and chowsingha. There are also crocodiles and langurs in the national
park. The park is also rich in plant diversity. There are quite
a few lakes in the park and if you love to watch birds you will
find more than 5000 of these beautiful feathers. Rare species like
blackbucks too can be found here.
There is a railway station and an airport at Jorhat.
It is only 97 km away from the town. Kaziranga is only 240 km away
from Guwahati airport. The roads are well maintained and you can
board a public transport to reach this place.
There are also cars
for hire if you please. The best time to get a glimpse of this wonderful
place is November to April. Kaziranga is a nature lover's paradise.
