Dilwara Temple
Dilwara temple at Mount Abu in Rajasthan is without
doubt an example of Indian sculpture at its very best. The temple
is situated in the picturesque hill station of Mount Abu.
This beautiful
Jain temple also serves as the storehouse of some ancient and extremely
precious manuscripts and treatise.
Built
in the Nagara style of temple architecture, it was constructed between
800AD and 1200AD. The inscriptions on the temple clearly suggest
that it was a seat of Shaivism and Jainism.
It
is impossible to deny the artistic beauty of Dilwara Temple. This
rock temple is richly ornated by fantastic sculptures. You will
have to admit the exceptional skill that is required to convert
a stone into such a fine art object. Dilwara temple is a poetry
in rocks and the carved pillars and intricately sculptured ceilings
are a treat to watch. This is one of the finest specimens of temple
architecture at its zenith.
